A technology startup from Leicester which invented a smart thermometer has been sold to one of the largest barbecue makers in America.

Apption Labs, which is the company behind Meater, was bought out by Traeger Grills.

Meater wirelessly to a phone, tablet or smart watch and shows how long your meat needs to cook – then lets you know when it’s done.

Joseph Cruz, Meater CEO said:

“Our product complements and enhances Traeger’s connected grilling experience, and joining forces with a market leader in outdoor cooking  was something we’re extremely excited about….  Together with Traeger, we believe there is much yet to be explored in the realm of connected cooking, and we’re thrilled by the notion of pushing forward to discover and develop new innovations.”

MEATER will operate as a standalone company within Traeger Grills and Joseph Cruz will continue as MEATER’s Chief Executive Officer.
