Richard Naylor, founder of Leicester-based startup Yumi Sleep Ltd, has announced that he’s started a PhD at Loughborough University’s School of Design and Creative Arts.

His research will focus on circular mattress design, sleep comfort and product longevity, areas central to Yumi’s work. The founder says the business isn’t on hold while he studies, instead Yumi Sleep is moving into commercialisation, with patent-pending technology and products in development, and will trade and grow alongside his research.

The company describes its product as a modular sleep system built to last rather than end up in landfill.

Richard said:

“Research should not just explain the world as it is. It should help us design what comes next.”
