De Montfort University has postponed its Freelancing and Entrepreneurship Awards following the death of a student on campus.

The student, a man in his 20’s, was fatally stabbed on Oxford Street in the city. An 18-year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Simon Baines, DMU Entrepreneurship Manager said:

“A decision has been taken by the University to postpone our Awards event, planned for Tuesday (10th Feb).

“This is in light of the terrible incident on campus this week which I am sure you will have seen in the media.”

The Awards originally planned for this month is supported by the Sir Thomas White Loan Charity and aims to celebrate the wealth of freelancing and entrepreneurial talents in Leicester.

The event will now take place on Tuesday 10th March, 5 – 8pm, in The Venue.

If you have already booked a place, you do not need to re-book.

A new date for the DMU TEDx event, which had been scheduled for March will be announced soon also.
