“The world’s most durable sports earphones”, developed by a Loughborough graduate, have already begun selling out as pre-orders go live.

1,000 units of Tom Jelliffe’s Tzuka earbuds were released this month, after which the ‘Arctic White’ versions have sold out. The ‘Stealth Black’ variety are still for pre-sale with a £20 deposit.

The startup has been developing the earphones for six years whilst being incubated at Loughborough University’s Business Incubator LU Inc.

In preparation for launch, founder Tom released a video showing his hardware being hit by a golf club, run over by a car and shot by a shot gun.

“This is not the correct way to test earbuds. But it is fun!

“It’s a strange feeling intentionally trying to destroy something you’ve spent years building.

“But I wanted to prove a point. Our earbuds are seriously tough.”
