A new report looking at the growth of startups across the country during the pandemic has hailed as having “defied the odds”.

The Year of the Startup report by Nat West bank looked at the number of companies started during 2020 and found that after London, Leicester was the “biggest boom town for new business”,  once the figures were adjusted for population.

The bank remarked how this was even more impressive considering that the people of Leicester have spent the longest time  living under locked down.

For every 100 people in Leicester, there were 1.68 new enterprises created and in total 9,381 businesses were formed in the city during 2020.
