A Loughborough university innovation has won a global prize and $1m for its green energy solution.

Aftrak is a system which doubles crop yield through combining solar microgrids and tailored tractors, both of which have been invented and manufactured at the University.

The invention has won the Miken-Motsepe Prize for Global Green Energy.

The awards set up in 2021 were established to advance technological solutions towards UN’s sustainability goals in Africa.

Daniel Parsons the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Loughborough University said:
