When Jadu launched Weejot two years ago, we wanted to put mobile app development in the hands of everyday people. After some initial successes, our service was purchased by Suffolk County Council who decided to hold a mobile ‘hack day’. The Hack Day was extremely successful; we offered prizes for the ‘best’ app. The winner was schoolboy Tom O’Brien, a 17-year-old A level student who had never written code before. Tom’s app is still in production use by the Council.

This talk is an account of the business rationale, the opportunity and some of the results.
